Mini-ITX-based icq-controlled mp3-player

  • Stack: Mini-ITX, HD44780 LCD controller, Debian, Perl, bash
  • Year: 2005

Combining a Mini-ITX board with a HD44780 LCD display unit, running Debian and plenty of bash and Perl scripts, I built this MP3 player using pieces from an old cupboard. The system functioned as an MP3 player, controlled through the ICQ direct messaging protocol. Having its own ICQ user account, the machine sent greetings to its friends when turned on, and it was indeed possible to befriend the machine - and ask it to play various songs. Which it did, in my living room.

Later on, I also installed an Apache web server, setting up a web-based system so I - and anyone on the planet - could decide what I should listen to.
